PORTFOLIO ABOUT INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA

PREFACE
Alhamdulillah, give thanks for God’s love and grace for us.
Thanks to God for helping me and give me chance to finish this portfolio Instructional Media timely. And I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Qudwatin Nisak M.Isa M.Pd M.Ed as the lecturer that always help us and give much knowledge about how to use media, create a available and usefull media for students, also how to choose interesting media for students.
The content of this portfolio are picture, printed, maket, audio-visual, audio, boardgame, and technology based.
The challengges of created this media are hard for me to find the interesting media and suitable topic for the media that I choose, it’s really difficult for me to match the material with the media. Also the limitation of time when I have create the boardgame and  maket make me stress, because I need much time to create them.
These media are suitable to use for attract students interest in teaching learning process in the classroom. Those this portfolio can be used as guidance for those who want to teach English by using media. Hopefully this portfolio usefull for teachers, students and reader who interest in English.

The media that we used
1.      Printed media (Newspaper) : newspaper is one of type of printed media. The newspaper that teacher provide is about  news item : ANIS and SANDI
v  For senior high school
At the first time teacher  will  ask students do they ever read newspaper and do they love to read newspaper? If yes she will asks what types of newspaper they perefer? Sport, news, or shoping? All of this question is just about reflections for them.

Then she will give them newspaper that have been prepared for them, and the newspaper that she provide is about Anis baswedan. We study about recount text.
Teacher  will separate them into group about 4 students each group and each group will have one newspaper that she has  provide, each them will have same newspaper because she xerox one newspaper only for all group. After that, teacher  will asks them to read it first, then we discuss together the whole texts, and the meaning also. Then the worksheet.

The worksheet is teacher asks them to takes the point ( important information ) from the newspaper, after that they should present it  in front of the class with their group as reporter and anis and sandi. So two of them  as ANIS & sandi and another as reporters , the script they create by them self but still related to the newspaper.


2.      Visual media (Pictures) : picture is also one of type of printed media. The picture that has been  provided by teacher is about Library.

v  Senior high school ( grade 1). We study about descriptive text.

First time teacher will interview them as warming up. Then asks students the previous material , then explain about descriptive text, Then she will show them the picture( library) that  she has bring for them , and explain them how to describe the pictures( the library) step by step, she also would discuss the meaning or vocabulary. After they master it, teacher will give them the worksheet. The worksheet is “ they  have to describe the things, place, building around the school, they may out for a while, teacher will devided them in pair. Then they back to the class, they present in front of the class with their partner.

3.      Maket media : on maket media, teacher create a miniatur house at seaside.
v  For Senior high school  . We study about recount text.
Teacher  create one media ,she bring it into classroom, then  she will show them the media. The miniatur that has been created was about the place that has been visited by teacher when she take holiday.
At the beginning, teacher will tell them that she just arrived from her holiday, she tell them tell them about her holiday but with short story. Teacher tell the story by using miniatur (realia media ).  After telling the story, we discuss together how to write recount text .

After that,asks them “do they love holiday? And “ where they prefer to go when they want to get holiday?”. The worksheet, teacher asks them to write about their own holiday based on recount text format.  The end teacher will choose some of them to read their writing, and the other pay attention on it. Then together we will choose three writing to discuss in the classroom for gain students understanding deeply, while the other who no have chance to read their story also should recheck their writing when they correct their friends writing.


4.      Audio media: Teacher used audio media by handphone and loadspeaker. She provide the audio through recording her own voice by handphone, she read one story about SITI KHATIDJAH.
v  For junior high school . We study about Narrative texts.
OK, At the first time come to the class we discuss what Narrative texts is. Then she held short conversation with them, such as:
Students do you love listening story?
What story do you love?
What kind of story do you love to listen?
Have your mother tell you some story before go sleep?
After that, she will play audio about khadijah story.

Well, at the first time teacher play the audio and ask students to listen carefully,at the second time she will ask them to take a note on a piece of paper  only about important information. ex: khadijah goes to work by car every morning and comes homes by car too. After they take a note, she ask them to collect all the information that they  have wrote on a paper ,then share the worksheet for all of them. The worksheet is “ teacher provide 10 statements about the story on piece of paper, which is true and falls statement inside”  if the statement is true they should  write “T” on box beside the number of statement, and if the statement is untrue they  should write “F” on box beside the number of statement also. They may read the note that they have collect before to make them ease doing the task.

1.      (...)Siti Khatidjah lives in a town.
2.      (...)  Siti Khatidjah has a big car.
3.      (...) Khatidjah goes work with her friends every morning.
4.      (...) she goes work by bus every morning.
5.      (...) she loves shopping on sunday.
6.      (...) she is busy woman so she very seldom goes out.
7.      (...) she says, I’m going to have a picnic in a field.
8.      (...) she comes to a small country after drives twenty kilometers.
9.      (...) khatidjah stops in front of restaurant for held a lunch.
10.  (...) a small country road is very dangerous.


5.      Audio-visual media : Teacher provide one video about procedure text. Teacher provide one video about procedure text, with in focus and also loadspeaker.
v  For senior high school. We study about procedure text.
Firstly teacher come to the class she interact with students and have some ice breaking. Teacher give explanation about procedure text, such as how to use it, the step.
After explanation, teacher show the video about procedure text “Tips On How to clean your shoes at home By Aminah Umar”. Then it play around 2 times, at first time will be  play normally, second  will play step by step along with explanation by teacher to make students more understand.
Finally the task, teacher divide students into group. Then they should write procedure task about everything that related to their daily life.

6.      Boardgame : Teacher provide LUDO as boardgame media.
v  For Senior high school. We study about passive voice.
Firstly, teacher give explanation about passive voice. After clear explanation teacher ask 2 students come forward to change active verb to passive to make other students more easy to understand with direct example.

To attract students interest, teacher use LUDO as media on teaching Passive Voice. First, teacher divide students into group that consist 4 students. Each group will get 1 boardgame. Then they play the LUDO. The task inside the LUDO. They should change from passive to active or from active to passive verb.

rules for the game of Ludo:
1.      Each player shake the dice for determine who will be first player.
2.      After that, shake the dice until figure out number 6 for out from home, if you cannot make it you should stay at home.
3.      If you success figure out “6” you can continue shake the dice for get another number.
4.      Then you can start playing based on number that you get.
5.      When occupy the color box, the players took the card in accordance with the color that consist on the box the players occupied.
6.      Afterwards, they should answer the question that was provided by teacher.
7.      If they cannot answer the questions, they should go back one step. When go back and occupies box that contained another command, then players still answer questions.
8.      The winner of this player is the player who can quickly reached Star(finish).
The meaning of certain signs in the game:
ü  Home : the beginning of pawn.
ü  Start                 : the beginning place after out from HOME
ü  Smiley                         : player not necessary to take the card
ü  Back : back home, occur for a pawn are stop in the same box with other pawn.
ü  Star : tempat akhir pemberhentian pion (finish).

7.      Technology based media : teacher looking for media, technology based that suitable for students.
v  For senior high school. We study about descriptive text about Albert Einstein.
First, teacher explain students about descriptive text, the use, and the rules. After teacher explain clearly about descriptive text, teacher continue with example by using Easle App( the easiest 3D carving software,free).So, easle.com is the aplication that can we used as teacher on teaching, easy and interesting. Easle provide many thing, such as : infographic, mind mapping, comparison text, slide show, poster, and brosure. Don’t forget enter with email, then teacher can show students the material that she create by easle directly but should have internet connection. So students should have laptop or computer each of them, so that teacher can share the material for all students with Easle App. Teacher can create group there or send it via email. Before that, teacher should register her name first, then sign in with email and password. When created group, it’s mean teacher allow students to see the material that has been provide by teacher.

Before use it, teacher will explain students how to use the Easle first. After they master it, teacher may ask students to ctreate their own creativity based on material that given by teacher.

If at school, teacher can use group to discuss the material together, but if private discussion at home they can use (invited friends to edit) via email.
