Report school visit in MTSN TUNGKOP ( INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA


a.       Background

This observed about Instructional Media. Media is a tool for helping teacher on teaching learning process. The reason why media is use, it is because media help teacher being creative on producing  the material for students to be more interesting. The main focus of this observation is to know what kind of media that teacher provide for students in MTSN TUNGKOP. Does the media interesting and suitable for them. Also is it usefull or not.

This report have investigate in MTSN TUNGKOP on Tuesday morning. The observer interview a teacher who teach English in grade 12 as object observation. The name of that teacher is Mr. Mawardi.

b.      Discussion
Based on result by interview Mr. Mawardi show that MTSN TUNGKOP usually use traditionnal media rather than modern media, such as: textbook, picture,newspaper, magazine and realia.  The media use based on topic. At the time observer do observed in MTSN TUNGKOP, the teacher use pictures as media.
 For Pictures media : to taught  vocabulary about express  Daily activity by using pictures.Pictures was used to attract students attention , because textbook quiet boring and monoton.  
The pictures was provide by teacher but sometimes he also ask students to bring it by them selves.Sometimes teacher also ask students to bring their  family pictures, but teacher does not tell students before what they gonna do by that pictures.  Mr. mawardi always help his students during learning, he know that his students still on law level about English subject, because they life at rural area.

Mr. Mawardi tell observer that he always use traditional media for his students, so he never use modern media such as technology based on teaching because he cannot use it, he don’t like to use it also the school does not provide the tools. For that reason, teachers on that school  use traditional media only. Sometimes his self as model(media), his students, the material on classroom. On his opinion, using traditional media more interesting and better than modern media or technology based.

Mr. mawardi said that in 1 meeting he can use more than 1 media, based on the time and the topic. Media sometimes from him and sometimes from his students. For example newspaper, mr. mawardi ask his students to bring newspaper each of of them.

c.       Benefit of picture media
Pictures can ease the students to understand the topic given.Everything can be seen while the language is being spoken a visual aid. When teacher use the pictures as their media in teaching, the pictures can explain clearly the teacher’s explanation. Also, pictures can motivate students on learning activity because pictures are interesting and colorful. Finally, picture is ease way to the students to remember and understand whatthey have been studied.
d.      The procedure of using pictures as media

ü  First, teacher show the students the pictures that he has been provide
ü  He share the pictures to students
ü  He read it first and students follow him
ü  He ask students come forward around 2 of them to practice in front of class
ü  Then he share the worsksheet is about guessing  pictures ( students should choose the correct one)
ü  Teacher divide students into group and he share the picture for all group each group consist 4 students and each group get 2 pictures to make them more comfortable, But in this school, he said that they never mix girls and boy in one group. boy with boy and girl with girl.

e.       Conclusion
The use of media in teaching learning process is good and really helpful. Media can help teachers to get students’ attention and to make learning process more effective, but it depends on how teachers implement them. In addition, pictures can increased the interest of students to the lesson. Teacher can manipulate the use of picture in many different ways. For these reasons, pictures do play a vital role in teaching and should never be forgetten.

Teachers in MTSN TUNGKOP also used another media for studying English. Such as :

Textbook : for Textbook : teacher will take one of short story on that textbook, then he copy, he cut the story  become complete story, then he share to the students, after that students should arranged the texts and helped by teacher.  They will work with group, but at this school, teacher separate boys and girls. So, girls with girls and boys with boys.  He never mix between boys and girls in one group.
