The Long History of High-Stakes Test
In my opinion,
the way Gilead Garda challengged the fugitives from tribe of Ephraim was wrong.
It is so absurb that Gilead dragged
away and killed them just
cause they couldn’t pronounce the H and said “Sibboleth”
instead of “Shibboleth”
. That was a crazy thing forty-two thousand people of Emphraim
died there because couldn’t mention the letter
H well. That’s also not
fair if the tribe of Ephraim
must to abandonet
their test algother because they don’t
have opportunity to learn
how to pronounce “shibboleth” correctly. As we know
the purpose of the test is
to find out our
ability and to
know what skill
that we already
have . If we failed the test, we can improve it in the next
test. So how we know it
without testing first, no testing
also no improvement, and the people
of Emphraim never
know their ability
and weakneses. They need
experiences, because experience
is the great
teacher for all
of us in
the world.
I totally disagree with
that role, i think cannot pronounce H it’s
not a big deal anyway because
that will not influences their other expertises.
If
they have high competence, they suitable passing the test base
on their ability. If
they are not
passed it, they may have
second chance. The most important values
on test is
the way they answer
the questions, how
they proficiency in
answering question during
interview, and how they
interest examiner
to choose them passing
the test.
About the tribe of Ephraim
who cannot pronounce
the H, they may have special course among
2-3 month, if
there is no
improvement at all,
the government should select
other test for
them. I suggest the examiner
have to looking for the
better standard for that test.
Because
the requirements that
deserve will show
the quality of the
test.
About High-stakes test, properly
before the test
begin they mention what should
be prepared for the
test. So the failure of test
can be avoided with good preparation. The assessment is not only in
one side but in generally. On
the other hand,
it’s not fully examiner fault
if the role
of the test
is not effective
and nonsense, because
they just follow the
rule that have
been there.
