Shaolan is taiwanese, she
is daughter of a calligrapher. She
started loves the form of chinese characters since her mother showing her the
beauty of that language.
She knows others will
thought it’s impossible thing to do, learning the form of chiness characters.
She start thingking how a new fast method of learning chinese might be usefull.
Since the age of five,
she started to learn how to draw every single stroke for each character in
correct sequence. She learned new
characters every day during the course of
the next 15 years. She told audiences that A
Chinese person would understand 20,000 characters, but only 1,000 are used
frequently. Knowing 200 will let a traveller get by, read road signs,
restaurant menus, to understand the basic idea of the web pages or
the newspapers. Then she teach audiences eight characters radicals. such as : mouth, person, fire, tree, mountain,
the soon, the moon, and door.
Put 2 people next
to each other and it represents follow. Put 3 people in the same character
and they are a crowd. The person with arms wide is big. The person
inside the mouth is a prisoner. Two trees together we have the woods. Three trees together we
create the forest. Put plank below a tree we have the foundation. Put a
mouth on the top of the tree, that's idiot.
Two fires together, I get
really hot. Three fires together that’s a lot of flames. Set fire under two
trees it’s burning. Two suns prosperous, three suns sprakles. Put sun and moon
shining together that’s brightness and also tomorrow. The sun is coming up
above horizon it’s sunrise.
Put a plank inside the
door it’s a door bolt. Mouth inside a door it’s asking question. Person inside
a door it’s evading.
Two women together they
have an argument, three women together it’s adultery.
By using this method, the
first eight radicals will allow you to build 32. So after we know the
characters we start building phrases. For example : the mountain and the fire
together we have fire mountain, it’s volcano.
This
is a sun placed with the origin, because Japan lies to
the east of China. So a sun origin
together we build Japan. A person behind Japan
it’s a Japanese person.
A mouth which tells you where to get out is an exit.
